Recently, the "Pan Family Vine and Bone Therapy" Intangible Cultural Heritage Heritage Preservation Base was officially established in Shiyan. This technique, which embodies the wisdom of a century-old Yao ethnic village doctor, has taken root in the Qinba region. It not only provides local people with distinctive traditional Chinese medicine health care services (non-medical), but also, through the innovative practice of veterans taking the lead in preserving the intangible heritage, injects new momentum into the activation of intangible heritage and the integration of employment and entrepreneurship for veterans.
The "Pan Family Vine and Bone Wound Therapy" - a non-material cultural heritage at the prefectural level of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region - originated from the Pan Mingrong family, a family of Yao medicine practitioners. It has been passed down through five generations and has a history of over 150 years. Due to its remarkable efficacy, unique medical theory, safe techniques, and simple operation, it has gained a high reputation in the local area. In 2021, it was included in the list of representative projects of non-material cultural heritage at the municipal level in Nanning, and in 2023, it was included in the list of representative projects of non-material cultural heritage at the provincial level of Guangxi Autonomous Region .
Pan Chenghai, the inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage "Pan Family Vine and Bone Therapy", has an inspiring dual identity history. As a veteran who once wore military uniform to defend the country, his military career cultivated his firm and persistent character. After leaving the military, he took over the baton of the family's inheritance and became the guardian of the intangible cultural heritage "Pan Family Vine and Bone Therapy". This century-old skill from the Pan family doctors in the Masha瑶 village of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been practiced and accumulated by several generations, and is renowned for its unique acupoint massage techniques and precise bone-setting methods. It has left many effective stories in the field of bone injury rehabilitation.
"From the battlefield defending the country to the 'new battlefield' of safeguarding people's health, what has changed is the identity, but the responsibility and commitment remain unchanged." Over the years, the intangible cultural heritage inheritor Pan Chenghai has always adhered to the original intention of family medical practice. On the basis of inheriting ancient techniques, he continuously summarizes clinical experience, systematically organizes and standardizes the original internal-only medical skills, and actively promotes them to go beyond the瑶 village and enter society. The inheritance base located in Shiyan this time is an important carrier for him to practice the concept of "letting intangible cultural heritage benefit more people", and the base not only has traditional Chinese medicine health care services (not medical), but also specially sets aside space for the display and teaching practice of intangible cultural heritage, having multiple functions such as serving the public, cultivating talents, and showcasing culture.
It is worth noting that Pan Chenghai, as a veteran, has devoted himself to the practice of inheriting intangible cultural heritage, building a bridge between these two groups. During the operation of the base, priority will be given to providing employment opportunities and entrepreneurial guidance to veterans. Through the model of "intangible cultural heritage skills + employment and entrepreneurship", it will help veterans achieve transformation and development. At the same time, by leveraging the social influence of veterans, the intangible cultural heritage project "Pan's Vine Planting and Bone Injury Therapy" will gain wider recognition and acceptance, helping to pass on the torch of national traditional culture.
Currently, the Shidai Heritage Preservation Base is establishing a professional service team to provide services such as traditional Chinese health care and rehabilitation guidance (non-medical) to the public. In the future, the base will also collaborate with local medical, cultural, and employment departments to launch a series of activities including "Heritage Entering Schools", "Heritage Entering Communities", and "Heritage Entering Rural Areas", aiming to shine even brighter in fulfilling multiple missions such as safeguarding public health, promoting employment and income growth, and preserving ethnic culture.
